Scot Bennett: New Notts County signing eyes centre-back role

Versatile new signing Scot Bennett wants to establish himself as a central defender under Notts County manager Ricardo Moniz.

The 24-year-old, who has joined on a two-year deal, played in defence for Exeter this season but had previously featured in midfield and attack.

"I want to settle as a centre-back," Bennett told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"Ricardo seemed interested in that. But, knowing I'm versatile, people are going to use that when they can."

The former Grecians captain insists that, despite remaining in League Two after County's relegation on the final day of the season, it was Moniz's vision that persuaded him to move to Meadow Lane.

"I like the way he talks about where he wants to take the club and the football he wants to play next year, which was a big part in why I wanted to join Notts County," he said.

"It was a no-brainer when they came knocking on the door."
