Dear oh dear, this site has become a magnet for extremely weird and very sad people. Some of the comments are vile. Have some respect and for everyone's sake get a life.. you know who you are, we all do... I stopped engaging because of you numpties..
Ah here come the inevitable cries of "legend" and "the best" emanating from those who frequent old trafford (or not as the case may be ;) )Don't get me wrong, he was decent, but was carried when he played alongside Vidic (at utd) and Terry (at international level). Ferdinand will be remembered for what he was: an able sidekick to better CBs.
He should have retired a while ago but at his peak was an excellent defender and part of a superb partnership with Vidic at Man Utd.Hopefully he doesn't take up punditry.

Plenty of cups and medals but will "choc ice", "sket", missing drug test and being banned tarnish his reputation.
For the cynics on here this guy has just lost his wife, I think your bayoneting the wounded, what must it be for him to read rotten comments at this time in his life. Engage some compassion please, he was a terrific player.
252. GreatescapeHe also ordered the fruit and nutcase to go to bed :)
All this user's posts have been removed. Why?
Saying Rio should go on and and work for Kick It Out, or become a TV pundit is ridiculous....he is one of the biggestvracists in football. Good riddance to another over rsted one dimensional footballer. Should have retired years ago, but the masdive ego wouldn't let him.
some very childish comments on here. at there peak rio and vidic one of the best defensive partnersips in europe. reached back to back champions league finals.
Rio Ferdinand is retiring? About time. Should have retired years ago. Another vastley overrated plodder hyped up by the English media. Good riddance!
A good decision from Rio. Given the last year he has had, life is more important than Football. despite all the crass comments from individuals on here, he played Football at the top level and has medals to back up his ability, many, many other clubs would have gladly signed him. Good luck Rio.
246There are no stupid comments, just stupid people.
@222You seem to forget that he also played for West Ham,Leeds Utd ,QPR & EnglandStupid comment
214. PelesfootSo, you tell posters they should go to bed/they are making meaningless comments by...... not going to bed and making meaningless comments? I think it might be yourself that is struggling to find a life.
A decent player but far from greatI don't think for whatever reason he fulfilled his early potential as a 'footballing CH' & relied heavily on his pace to get him out of troubleThat went several seasons ago & exposed his limitationsVery sad his recent personal issue's & you have to wish him well with whatever he does for his family in the future
236. goldie"Bursa, show me one stat that proves me worn."All your previous and subsequent posts on here prove that you're worn. Well and truly worn out. Now go away child and play with your toys.
Goldie, learn to read. I said stats would prove you wrong. I didn't say I had them or would provide them for you. I'm sure you are big and ugly enough to find them yourself. As for an argument. I'm not arguing with you. I am merely disagreeing with your opinion. I wouldn't bother arguing with a mickey mouser as they still regurgitate historical events and talk nonsense IMO
