Southend United defender Adam Barrett has signed a new one-year contract.

The 35-year-old centre-back rejoined the Shrimpers for a second spell in January, and played 13 times to help them earn promotion to League One via the play-offs.

In total, the ex-Leyton Orient trainee has played 302 games for the club.

"It's great to know where I'll be next season. I have a lot to offer still and I'm still hungry for success. I'm over the moon," said Barrett.

"I had other offers but this was the only place I wanted to be. I want to play a big part next season."
