National League side Gateshead have appointed Gary Owers as assistant to manager Malcolm Crosby.
Owers, 46, played more than 300 games for Sunderland between 1986 and 1984, and featured in the 1992 FA Cup final while Crosby was in charge.
Former Bath City boss Owers will leave his current role as Motherwell's head of recruitment at the end of June.
"Gary is a very experienced coach, who I have known for a long time," Crosby told the club's website.
"We both want to bring success to this club, and we will both be aiming for promotion this season."
