Watford have signed France midfielder Etienne Capoue from Tottenham Hotspur for a club-record fee on a four-year contract.
The 26-year-old joined Spurs from Toulouse in 2013, but only made 24 league appearances over two seasons.
He has been capped seven times by his country, scoring once against Belarus in 2012.
His transfer fee surpasses the £3.25m Watford paid West Brom to sign Nathan Ellington eight years ago.
Capoue is the Hornets' fifth signing this summer after promotion to the Premier League, following deals for striker Matej Vydra, defender Sebastian Prodl, goalkeeper Giedrius Arlauskis and full-back Jose Holebas.
