Hartlepool United were given a reality check in Tuesday's 4-0 friendly defeat by Scunthorpe United at Victoria Park, according to manager Ronnie Moore.
Pools were undone by a hat-trick from striker Paddy Madden and Luke Williams's free-kick in their first home friendly of the season.
The team had been unbeaten in their previous four games.
"They've got to get their feet back on the ground, back down to earth and do the right things," Moore told BBC Tees.
"If you're a defender, it wants clearing, then clear it.
"People have started to believe one or two things that have been written about them.
"The think they're good players now, but we saw how good they were tonight."
