Hartlepool made the perfect start to the new season with victory over Morecambe at Victoria Park.
Billy Paynter opened the scoring on his competitive debut for Pools, heading in his 100th league goal.
Morecambe looked to equalise, but Jamie Devitt and Lee Molyneux wasted chances to level either side of half-time.
Rakish Bingham doubled the lead when he rifled in from Paynter's chipped through ball and although Morecambe hit the post late on Pools held on to win.
