Altrincham 0-1 Forest Green Rovers

Jon Parkin scored the only goal of the game as Forest Green Rovers began the National League season with a narrow victory at Altrincham.

The striker nodded in Elliott Frear's corner after 73 minutes to ensure last season's play-off semi-finalists took all three points.

Altrincham's best chance came when Josh O'Keefe put a first-half header wide from six yards.

Kurtis Guthrie missed the target for Rovers before Parkin's crucial strike.

Forest Green assistant manager Jamie Day told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"It's nice to start the season with a win.

"It's the first day, people's touches and passes probably still need a few weeks to get to where we want them to be.

"Ady Pennock wanted to get players that know each other really well, but it will chop and change - we've got a good squad of players."
