Tranmere Rovers 1-0 Woking

Jay Harris' goal gave Tranmere victory over Woking and a winning start to life in the National League.

Rovers, who were relegated from League Two last season, had to wait until the 58th minute to take the lead through Harris' 20-yard strike.

The midfielder could have scored earlier but his long-range effort was saved by away goalkeeper Jake Cole.

Cole Stockton glanced a header wide late in the second half for Rovers, who then held on to claim the three points.

Woking boss Garry Hill told BBC Surrey:

"There is always a lot of anticipation on the first day of the season and it was a very interesting fixture on paper. I look over the 90 minutes, and particularly over the first half, we dominated for long periods of time and we had opportunities to go in front. I felt comfortable at half-time.

"I felt we bossed the first half for long periods, the second half was very even and we had the best opportunity 10 minutes in.

"We tried and went with three up front in a big way to try and get an equaliser. It wasn't to be but there were some positives despite the defeat."
