Uruguay striker Christian Stuani scored twice as Championship side Middlesbrough reached the second round of the League Cup with a comfortable win at League One Oldham.
The visitors took the lead in the first half when Yanic Wildschut raced onto a through-ball to score.
Stuani, a summer signing from Espanyol, headed in his first goal for the club before turning home a low cross.
Danny Philliskirk scored a consolation for the hosts in stoppage time.
Middlesbrough, League Cup winners in 2004, never looked in danger of being on the wrong end of an upset, despite Adam Clayton missing an early penalty.
