Braintree Town have signed defender Mark Phillips and midfielder Alex Woodyard ahead of the new National League campaign.
Former Brentford and Southend centre-back Phillips, 32, spent last season at AFC Wimbledon.
Woodyard, 22, was most recently at Concord Rangers.
"Alex will be a great addition and Mark brings a real leadership quality with him," Iron manager Danny Cowley told BBC Essex.
"When you're working with limited finances sometimes you have to play the waiting game. We've managed to play the waiting game and get there in the end."
Braintree begin the new season at Chester on Saturday, before hosting Lincoln and Tranmere.
