Southend United 0-2 Walsall

Walsall beat Southend United thanks to goals from Tom Bradshaw and Sam Mantom.

Bradshaw, who scored a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, drilled home from 12 yards.

Mantom stroked a low effort home from the edge of the area after Andy Taylor's deflected cross fell to him.

Southend's David Worrall had an effort cleared off the line before home keeper Daniel Bentley was forced into saves by James Baxendale and Jordan Cook.

Walsall manager Dean Smith told BBC WM:

Smith on Southend v Walsall

"It was very satisfying, because I've watched their last two games and they're a good team.

"Certainly the first half, and how dominant we were, it was a pleasure to watch the players.

"Like good teams do, they came back at us, but the goal in the second half killed the game off.

"I certainly hope that Tom Bradshaw is here in September. We don't want to sell him and he wants to stay here. He is not for sale as far as I'm concerned."
