Barnet 0-2 Wycombe Wanderers

Garry Thompson's first goals for Wycombe sent his side top of League Two at the expense of Barnet in the first Football League game at The Hive.

Thompson, who joined from Notts County in the summer, opened the scoring when his 20-yard shot found the top corner.

He added his second from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the penalty area by Andy Yiadom.

John Akinde and Luke Gambin both struck wide for the Bees as they remain pointless near the foot of League Two.

Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"I'm really proud of the commitment from everyone. Garry Thompson's work-rate was phenomenal and he deserved both of his goals from that alone.

"Matt Ingram is the best keeper in the division, we are so lucky to have him in between the sticks, but he will be the first to say he has a wonderful back four in front of him.

"We haven't been able to fill the bench yet so it may only get worse. The loan market will be big, so if I have to dip into there I will do.

"Managers say they don't look at the league table, I do, doesn't mean a thing being top this early. It's nice to be there, but there is plenty of football to be played."
