Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Reading

Modou Sougou
Modou Sougou has scored two goals in his two games for the Owls

Sheffield Wednesday substitute Modou Sougou scored a last-minute equaliser to deny Reading their first Championship win of the season.

Danny Williams gave Reading the lead, firing into the roof of the net after Orlando Sa had broken into the box.

The Owls levelled when keeper Jonathan Bond dropped Rhoys Wiggins's cross and Sougou scored his second goal in as many games by netting the rebound.

The goal was only Wednesday's second shot on target.

Owls keeper Lewis Price, making his debut after Keiren Westwood injured his kidneys in the 2-1 defeat at Ipswich, was relatively quiet as Reading only hit the target with three of their 15 shots.

The hosts also lost captain Glenn Loovens, who had been a fitness doubt, to injury in the first half.

Clarke backs Bond after late mistake

After Williams's opener, Reading could have sealed victory but Oliver Norwood's free-kick was saved by Price.

And Sougou made them regret wasting their chances when he pounced on Bond's error.

The 30-year-old summer signing from Marseille also netted in the League Cup win over Mansfield last week.

Reading boss Steve Clarke: "We bossed the game from start to finish and got heavily punished for a mistake at the end.

"Jonathan is a young goalkeeper, but even senior goalkeepers make mistakes. This is the life of a goalkeeper. At some stage this season, Jonathan will make a save which will win us a game.

"The game should have been over in the last 10 minutes, but I've been in football a long time and it's never over until it's over. We tried to make some changes just to see the game out.

"I thought defensively we were solid and we didn't give anything away."

Sheffield Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal: "It was not a good night, but we won one point - we didn't lose two points.

"It was a game when Lewis Price did not have much work to do. It wasn't a good match. A lot of players were not at the same level they usually play.

"They controlled the game in the first half and we lost a little confidence. To have a little luck, we must fight."
