Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Dave Edwards has signed a one-year contract extension at Molineux.

The 29-year-old Wales international's existing deal was due to run out at the end of the season.

"I think he's at his peak. In the years ahead, I think he's going to be a very good player," head coach Kenny Jackett told BBC WM 95.6.

"He's been a key player here and I'm delighted he's committed his future to the club."

Edwards joined Wolves from Luton Town in 2008 and scored the second goal in Saturday's 2-1 victory at Blackburn on the opening day of the Championship season.

"He brings so much to the team and that can be a problem for the opposition," Jackett added. "Goals and assists are a big part of the game and he's got the knack of being in the right place at the right time."

Dave Edwards: A scorer of important goals
Edwards scored eight goals last season - seven of them in the second half of games, three of them winning goals.
This season, he is already off the mark, netting what turned out to be the decisive goal in Wolves' opening-day win at Blackburn.
