Torquay United assistant manager John Ramshaw hopes that injured captain Luke Young will stay with the club beyond the end of his contract.

Young, 22, whose deal runs out next summer, could miss all of this season after injuring knee ligaments.

"At the end of the season Luke has to decide where his future lies," Ramshaw told BBC Radio Devon.

"The gaffer and I both hope that he continues to be the captain of Torquay United."

Young proved to be an instant hit at Plainmoor last season, scoring seven goals in his first 16 games after moving from Plymouth Argyle.

But he failed to score after October as Torquay's fortunes changed and the club finished mid-table in the Conference Premier.

"We love him to bits and think he's a great player," added Ramshaw.

"We miss him terribly, we miss his ability, we miss his enthusiasm, we miss his smiling face around the training ground every morning.

"It was a blow to the club, but one that we're going to have to overcome and get on with things.

"It's going to be a long one, but we hope he will be back just before the end of the season. so hopefully it won't be the last time level seen Luke in a yellow shirt this season."
