Bryan Prunty fired a double as 10-man Airdrie secured victory at Glebe Park.
Prunty gave the visitors the lead when he found space to control Caolan McAleer's through ball to score.
And Prunty scored his and Airdrie's second after Brechin failed to clear a free-kick. McAleer was then sent off for fouling Craig Molloy.
Andrew Jackson scored from the rebound after Neil Parry saved his penalty. Despite late pressure, Brechin could not find an equaliser.
