Steaua Bucharest coach Mirel Radoi has been banned from giving instructions to his players from the technical area.

The 34-year-old was given a touchline ban by European governing body Uefa on Monday because he does not have the necessary coaching licence.

But he will be allowed to sit on the bench for domestic matches providing he does not communicate with his team.

Romania's football federation said he would be banned for up to six matches if he violates the ruling.

Former Romania centre-back Radoi was banned from the technical area for Steaua's 3-0 Europa League play-off defeat by Norwegian league runners-up Rosenborg on Thursday.

Radoi, who replaced Constantin Galca as Steaua boss in May, was officially appointed as the club's sporting director.

But he was on the bench for games against AS Trencin and Partizan Belgrade in the Champions League preliminary rounds this season.

"We shouldn't have told the truth," said Steaua owner Gigi Becali. "We should have just said that Radoi is the technical director.

"Radoi doesn't need to be on the bench. He'll stay next to me, in the VIP box."
