Shrewsbury Town have signed full-back Sam Patterson on a one-year contract, with the option of a further 12 months, following a successful trial.
Patterson, 21, played for Bradford Park Avenue last season after being released by Barnsley in the summer of 2014.
He previously worked with Micky Mellon during the Shrewsbury manager's time as assistant boss at Oakwell.
"He has been here the whole of pre-season and paid for it out of his own pocket," Mellon told the club website.
"He has impressed us all and fits the profile of what we want at the football club."
