Derby County 1-2 Leeds United

Chris Wood's goal gave Uwe Rosler a first win as Leeds manager

Chris Wood fired in a superb late winner to give Leeds their first win of the season at Derby.

The striker drove in from the edge of the box in the 88th minute to win a game that looked set for a draw.

Earlier, Chris Martin's low shot had brought Derby level as the Rams came back strongly after Tom Adeyemi had headed Leeds ahead in the first half.

It is Leeds' first win at Derby in 13 years and inflicts a first defeat of the season on the Rams.

Prior to this game both teams had drawn their first four games of the season, with Leeds unable to hold on to leads and Derby proving efficient at coming back from going a goal down.

This game followed a similar path, with the visitors dominating the first half through better movement, passing and pressing.

Central to this was England Under-19 international Lewis Cook, who returned from suspension and was a constant source of creation and threat to the opposition.

It was from Stuart Dallas's cross that Leeds took the lead, though, with Adeyemi finding space to head in his first goal for the club near the end of the first half.

However, the Rams rallied in style after the break, with Martin turning and firing low past Marco Silvestri to bring them level.

Jeff Hendrick fired wide after an error from Sol Bamba, Silvestri produced a good save to deny Johnny Russell and Liam Cooper blocked an Andreas Weimann shot as Leeds repelled the rampant home side.

But Wood would have the final word courtesy of his 20-yard strike, set up by another penetrating run from Cook.

Derby head coach Paul Clement:

"It's another game where we have gone behind in the first half and that's four games out of five where we've gone a goal down.

"It was an excellent response in the second half but you have to play the game over 90 minutes. You can't just play well for 20-25 minutes and that's really the summary of our work leading onto this international break.

"We have to be more consistent over the games but I have confidence in these players. I think they've shown they are a good football team and can battle and fight and do all the ugly stuff to get the foundation you can build your football on, but we've not done it consistently enough over the 90 minutes."

Leeds head coach Uwe Rosler on match-winner Chris Wood:

"I think he's been prepared since he walked through the door. He needed a home, he needed to realise that the manager really wanted him and the chairman really wanted him and that he's playing for a massive club.

"He's aware of his responsibilities because coming from a squad player to a club where's he a 40-game plus player he's aware that he has to perform in each game and has to give us a platform to play on.

"I always said from day one the goals would come because I see what he puts in, and I'm a big believer in life that what you put in you get out."
