Northampton Town 1-2 Dagenham & Redbridge

Two goals from Matt McClure secured Dagenham & Redbridge a first league win of the season as they came from behind to win at Northampton Town.

The Cobblers took the lead on 23 minutes when Marc Richards headed home Nicky Adams' enticing cross.

McClure levelled five minutes later when he headed in Ashley Hemmings' cross at the back post.

A mix-up between Rod McDonald and keeper Adam Smith allowed McClure to tap into an empty net before half-time.

Smith almost single-handedly kept the home side in the game after the break as he denied Christian Doidge and Hemmings.

Dagenham's first win over Northampton in 11 attempts lifted them out of the League Two relegation zone.

Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett told BBC London 94.9:

"It's the first time we've beat Northampton as a club and the first time I have beaten Chris Wilder. I am pleased I have managed to beat him at last.

"It [the win] has been a long time coming. We should have won at Wycombe away and we should have probably beaten Stevenage.

"We had a number of chances to put the game to bed but we just couldn't find it and the longer the game goes on the more opportunities the home team are going to have.

"They put us under pressure certainly towards the end but we were resilient."
