Aston Villa striker Rudy Gestede is back in the Benin squad after a one-year absence.

Gestede has been included in the Squirrels squad for their 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali in Cotonou on 6 September.

His last outing for the national team was in July 2014 when Benin beat Malawi at home in a qualifier for this year's tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

Gestede is handed a recall by coach Oumar Tchomogo, who took charge in May.

Tchomogo, a former Benin international, has also brought back Jordan Adéoti, Frédéric Gounongbé and Lazadi Fousséni.

The coach has also kept faith with four locally-based players whilst Paris Saint-Germain's 19 year old midfielder Sessi D'Almeida, who was born in France, is in line for his first cap.

Benin will face a tricky game against Group C leaders Mali who beat South Sudan 2-0 in their opening 2017 Nations Cup qualifier in June.

West Bromwich Albion's Stephane Sessègnon scored the only goal as the Squirrels were held to a 1-1 draw at Equatorial Guinea on the opening day.

Benin have only made three appearances at the tournament in 2004, 2008 and 2010 but the West Africans have failed to qualify for the last three tournaments.
