Aston Villa have signed West Brom defender Joleon Lescott for a fee of up to £2m and Liverpool defender Tiago Ilori on a season-long loan.
Villa have paid £1m for the loan of Ilori, 22, with the option to sign him at the end of the season for between £6m and £9m depending on clauses.
Lescott, 33, who has 26 England caps, has signed a two-year contract.
Villa have also signed Anderlecht keeper Matija Sarkic, 18, on a three-year deal.

"I'm pleased with the defensive reinforcements but think the lack of an experienced Premier League striker is going to be a big hindrance. It was a shame the Adebayor deal could not get done.
"I can't see any of the current strikers getting 15+ goals so are really going to rely on the likes of Gil, Grealish, Traore and Sinclair to wade in with the goals?"
Boyhood Villa fan Lescott has also played for Wolves, Everton and Manchester City.
"Joleon is a player who has great Premier League experience and he'll be a huge help to the younger members of our squad," Villa boss Tim Sherwood said.

"Deadline day can be deemed a disappointing end to the transfer window for Brendan Rodgers. The decision to part with high potential Portuguese centre-back Tiago Ilori - initially on loan to Aston Villa, but with a purchase clause reportedly included - is a poor one.
"At a time when Liverpool's centre-back ranks are at their most vulnerable, Ilori could have been a useful option. One positive to come from the day is that Mamadou Sakho is still a Liverpool player."
One player they will not be signing is Bulgaria striker Dimitar Berbatov.
The club held talks with the 34-year-old former Manchester United and Tottenham player's agent, but decided against signing him as they considered his wage demands to be too high.
Berbatov is a free agent after leaving Ligue 1 side Monaco earlier this summer.
