Arbroath's Sergio Cecilia pulled an early effort past the post before team-mate Darren Ramsay sweetly struck an effort which went just over the bar.
East Fife's Kevin Smith missed the target either side of the break, his second-half effort sailing over.
Linn won it in the 80th minute, his well-taken free-kick nestling in the top corner.
