Preston North End 1-1 Bristol City

Aaron Wilbraham
Aaron Wilbraham's goal was his first for City in a month

Bristol City slipped into the bottom three despite earning a late point at Preston with Aaron Wilbraham's header.

Luke Freeman twice forced fine finger-tip saves from Preston keeper Jordan Pickford, while Joe Garner hit the crossbar from 30 yards for the hosts.

Neil Kilkenny broke the deadlock with a long-range shot high into the net.

Pickford later turned Wilbraham's shot behind at the near post but, with 10 minutes remaining, the striker headed in Joe Bryan's cross at the near post.

City had late chances to win the game but missed out on earning their second victory of the Championship season.

The visitors had the best of the first-half chances through Jonathan Kodjia and Freeman, but a combination of great defending and good goalkeeping kept the scores level at the break.

The deadlock was broken through former Bristol City midfielder Kilkenny and, after chances were wasted from Wilbraham and Mark Little, it looked like Preston would hold on for victory.

However, Wilbraham's bullet header at the near post levelled the game and the visitors could have won it but Bryan, Kieran Agard and Freeman's free header from just six yards out all failed to find the net.

Preston boss Simon Grayson: "Overall I thought we played well. It was like a basketball game at times.

"We're just pleased to have stopped the rot because when we've lost the games against the three top teams as we have the next thing you want to do is at least get a point on the board.

"Overall we're satisfied with what we've done."

Bristol City boss Steve Cotterill: "Without a shadow of a doubt we deserved more. I just thought we were brilliant.

"I'm really proud of the team to play that kind of football at such a difficult venue.

"We are an attacking team and that's why those fans will be going home really pleased with their performance."
