Hull City 1-1 Queens Park Rangers

Charlie Austin
Charlie Austin has scored six goals for QPR this season

Hull City and QPR played out a fairly flat draw at the KC Stadium.

Charlie Austin gave the visitors the lead when he headed home a Massimo Luongo corner for his sixth of the season.

Michael Dawson levelled for the hosts before the break with a header from Tom Huddlestone's free-kick.

The two teams cancelled one another out in the second half, with Rangers forward Tjaronn Chery missing the best chance for a winner when he fired over.

Sone Aluko forced a save from Rangers keeper Rob Green inside the first minute and then just failed to connect with a low Andy Robertson cross as the Tigers started on the front foot.

QPR grew into the game and took the lead when Austin, who failed a medical with Hull in 2013, headed home from Luongo's corner.

The hosts responded well to going behind and were level before the break after Huddlestone's free-kick was met by the head of Dawson.

After a quiet start to the second half the R's should have retaken the lead when Chery somehow managed to put his shot over from close range after being found by Matty Phillips' cross.

Both sides made substitutions in a bid to inject some energy into the game but a point apiece was a fair result for two teams relegated from the Premier League last season.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce told BBC Radio Humberside:

"It was a bit of a struggle. I thought for the first 20 minutes we did ok. Their goal seemed to set us back a bit and it was difficult and we found it hard going.

"We couldn't really play with the intensity that we needed to play with against a decent QPR team.

"We've got no divine right to turn over QPR and to be fair to them they've come here and played very, very well and made life difficult for us."

QPR boss Chris Ramsey:

"We played well today but we know we've got more up our sleeve.

"In your heart you would take a point at Hull, it's a big club, good players, good manager.

"We would have wanted at least four points out of the last two games but a point here is a good point."
