Middlesbrough academy product defender Dael Fry has signed a five-year deal with his home-town club.
Fry, 18, made his Boro debut on the opening day of the 2015-16 Championship with a start in the goalless draw at Preston North End.
The England under-19 stopper followed that with a substitute appearance in the 3-1 win at Oldham.
"I'm really pleased as he deserves this contract and our confidence," boss Aitor Karanka told BBC Tees.
"He has everything to be successful in football and especially this club.
"He's a good player, a very good kid and he loves to learn, he trains with us sometimes and is improving every single day."
