Buchanan netted either side of a Jordyn Sheerin goal.
Home goalkeeper David Crawford had tipped a Ben Gordon effort over the crossbar.
Mikk Reintam's also went close for Alloa with a looping header cleared off the line by Jackson Longridge as Livi leapfrogged Alloa in the table.
