Northampton captain Marc Richards scored his sixth goal of the season to help his side beat high-flying Wycombe.
Cobblers striker Richards equalised with a superb curling free-kick after Luke O'Nien had put the visitors ahead.
Lawson D'Ath headed in a teasing cross from Nicky Adams to put Northampton in front before Shaun Brisley added a third when he headed in off the post.
Danny Rowe reduced the deficit late on, but second-placed Wanderers could not salvage a point.
Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"First five minutes we were brilliant, but we needed to build on that. We had the chances to build on that but we never got the second goal.
"They had three chances in the second half and they scored two of them, and that's not good enough.
"Second in the table so it's not all doom and gloom. We don't give up and we never will do. Just the sloppiness of the goals and a few players were unrecognisable today and I think that's down to tiredness.
"Two wins and a defeat, it's not so much of a bad return in a week."
Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Northampton:
"I thought it was a really good game, we recovered well after going behind early.
"We controlled the game well, we were composed and we had lots of options all over the pitch.
"John-Joe (O'Toole) had his best game for the football club by a million miles and hopefully he can kick on now."
