Grimsby Town 1-1 Forest Green Rovers

Forest Green Rovers remain top of the National League after a battling 1-1 draw with Grimsby at Blundell Park.

The hosts took the lead in the 31st minute through Jon-Paul Pittman's low left-footed effort.

The league leaders responded within three minutes when Jon Parkin guided his left-footed effort into the bottom left corner of the Grimsby net.

The Mariners pushed for a winner in the second half, but it evaded them and Forest Green held on for a point.

Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I thought we did pretty well. The dressing room after is relatively quiet. There's no-one certainly jumping about for joy at getting a draw.

"I've told them to get their heads up and I was quite happy with a lot of what I saw.

"Overall I was happy with the performance and it was a game that I think unsurprisingly had not too many real clear cut chances because it's two decent teams and you very rarely get lots of goalmouth action."

Forest Green assistant boss Jamie Day told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"The boys played with confidence. I'm pleased that we got something from the game that we can take forward to Wednesday (away to Aldershot). Obviously we would have liked three points though.

"We had good spells during the game where we were on top, but I thought we defended pretty well too.

"It was a fantastic touch from Parkin to bring it down with a really good finish. We know what he is about and he showed his quality.

"If we said after the amount of games we have played that we were still top of the table we would have snapped your hand off. We're still full of confidence and we have a team that works extremely hard throughout the week."
