New Halifax Town boss Darren Kelly saw his side heavily beaten at The Shay by Cheltenham in his first match in charge of the National League strugglers.
Dean Munns put the visitors ahead and, after Kingsley James levelled, Amari Morgan-Smith restored the Robins' lead.
Danny Wright touched in Munn's cross after the break and Harry Pell made it four just before the hour mark.
Billy Waters added a fifth before Munns then scored twice in injury time, once from the spot, to complete the rout.
Kelly, sacked by Oldham in September after just four months in charge of the League One side, was appointed Halifax manager on Thursday.
Halifax have now gone seven league games without a win to drop to 23rd, now four points adrift of safety, while Cheltenham move up to second, a point behind leaders Forest Green.
Cheltenham manager Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
"Seven really quality goals. I'm very, very proud of them and am pleased for the supporters who made the journey that they saw some good goals from their team.
"We had a few out there who had their best-ever game in a Cheltenham shirt. If I name one, I'm going to have to go through and name the entire team.
"With the movement and the unselfish running, we looked like a unit that demoralised a team trying to impress their new manager."
