Carpi 2-1 Torino

Carpi
Carpi clinched a historic promotion to Serie A last season after just two campaigns in Italian football's second tier

Carpi claimed their first Serie A win in history, a narrow victory over Torino in coach Giuseppe Sannino's first game in charge.

Sannino replaced Fabrizio Castori, who was sacked after six matches, on Tuesday with Carpi bottom of the table.

Carpi took the lead when Gabriel Silva's effort went in off goalkeeper Daniele Padelli's shoulder, and Ryder Matos doubled the advantage.

Maxi Lopez pulled a goal back with a penalty but Carpi hung on.

Last season Carpi clinched a historic promotion to the top flight after only two campaigns in Serie B.

The club - founded in 1909 - from the province of Modena have spent the majority of their history in the lower reaches of Italian football.

In Saturday's late kick-off the Verona derby between Chievo and Hellas finished in a 1-1 draw.
