Robert Lewandowski scores Bayern Munich's fourth goal

Robert Lewandowski's superb goalscoring run continued as Bayern Munich thrashed Borussia Dortmund to extend their lead at the top of the Bundesliga.

Striker Lewandowski, 27, scored twice in the second half to take his tally to 12 goals in the last four games.

Thomas Muller also netted twice for Bayern, including one from the penalty spot, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang tapped in to give Dortmund brief hope.

Mario Gotze added Bayern's fifth goal as they made it eight wins from eight.

That run equalled a club and league record and the Bundesliga champions are now seven points clear of Dortmund, who suffered a humiliating defeat in Thomas Tuchel's first Der Klassiker game in charge.

Lewandowski has now scored nine goals in his last three Bundesliga appearances and the Poland international striker joins Gerd Muller and Christian Muller as the only players to have scored 12 goals after only eight games of the season.

Dortmund defended poorly throughout and were 2-0 down after 35 minutes as Thomas Muller took his goal tally for the season into double figures.

Dortmund quickly hit back to make it 2-1 as Gabon international Aubameyang extended his record of having scored in each of Dortmund's first eight games of the season.

The 26-year-old also scored in the final two games of last season but his achievement was overshadowed as Lewandowski slotted home twice in the space of 12 second-half minutes to extend his prolific run.

Lewandowski is an ex-Dortmund player and Gotze also punished his former club when he steered a shot into the bottom corner with a third goal in the space of 20 minutes.

Elsewhere, third-placed Schalke lost their second game of the season as they were beaten 3-0 at home by Cologne, while Bayer Leverkusen drew 1-1 with Augsburg.
