Fleetwood Town 0-1 Coventry City

Fleetwood Town manager Steven Pressley
Pressley saw his new side go down to a last-minute defeat against his former employers

A last-minute own goal by Richard Wood spoiled Steven Pressley's first game as Fleetwood Town manager against his former side Coventry City.

George Thomas's shot was blocked by Chris Maxwell but then rebounded in off former Sky Blues defender Wood.

Until then, second-from-bottom Town had held their own against the visitors.

Jacob Murphy and Marc Antoine-Fortune had good chances for City, but Fleetwood looked to have done enough for a draw until the late drama.

Unhappy reunion for Richard Wood
Wood, playing only his fourth game for Fleetwood on loan from Rotherham, spent two and a half years at Coventry after being signed in January 2010. He was released by then Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley at the end of the 2012-13 season. Having since been at Charlton Athletic, Rotherham and Crawley (loan). This was his first reunion with Coventry since he left.

The only chance for either side in a largely forgettable first half came when Sam Ricketts' cross found Murphy at the back post, but somehow Maxwell prevented the ball crossing the line.

Fleetwood raised their game after the break, with Ashley Hunter hitting the post and David Ball's snap-shot being well saved by Reice Charles-Cook.

They had a let-off when Murphy's shot off rebounded off the post, only for Fortune to sidefoot wide from close range.

But, just as it looked as though the home side would earn a point, Wood turned the ball into his own net.

Sky Blues boss Tony Mowbray told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:

"It's a tough place to come. I did feel as if we controlled the game for long spells and ultimately I believe we got our just desserts.

"On the balance of the game, we deserved it. We had plenty of chances, and you've got to put it in context.

"We haven't got our top scorer here, Adam Armstrong. We were without a bit of cutting edge - but we got the three points."
