Gateshead 1-1 Cheltenham Town

Jordan Cranston
Gateshead scorer Jordan Cranston played nine League One games for Notts County last season but was released in the summer

Danny Wright earned Cheltenham Town a point against his former club Gateshead with a second-half header.

Jordan Cranston's curling free-kick saw the hosts lead at the break but Wright found the top corner from a Jack Dunns set-piece to ensure the Robins remain second in the National League.

Both sides created opportunities in an open and entertaining match.

Gateshead's Ryan Bowman missed several chances and Amari Morgan-Smith wasted a couple of good openings for the Robins.

Neither team could find a winner, meaning Cheltenham slip to five points behind leaders Forest Green Rovers, while Gateshead stay in sixth place.

Cheltenham Town boss Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"I didn't think we played particularly great, especially in the first half. But in the second half they did a little bit more and deserved a goal and then it was whoever took the next chance.

"We had the next couple, both teams had chances and we're disappointed with another draw even though we're away from home and Gateshead are going well.

"We're having too many draws at the minute. We've got to try and turn our draws in to wins now and it's got to be a couple on the trot again - we've got to go on a little run if we can."
