Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder Mario Gotze has been ruled out for 10 to 12 weeks with a groin injury, his club has said.
The 23-year-old picked up the problem in the first half of Thursday's 1-0 defeat by Republic of Ireland.
Gotze will now miss Germany's Euro 2016 qualifier with Georgia on Sunday, with his team needing a point to reach France next summer.
He will also miss Bayern's two Champions League ties with Arsenal.
The injury could rule out Gotze, who has scored four goals for Bayern this season, for the remainder of the first half of the season.
Bayern's last game before the winter break is on 19 December against Hannover, which is 10 weeks away.
The Bundesliga champions then resume their campaign on 23 January at Hamburg.
