Match ends, Ipswich Town 0, Huddersfield Town 0.
Ipswich and 10-man Huddersfield played out a goalless draw in a game with few clear-cut chances.
Huddersfield forward Nahki Wells saw an early attempt cleared off the line by Christophe Berra.
Ishmael Miller also went close for the visitors in the first half, but his attempt was again blocked by Berra.
David McGoldrick could have given Ipswich three points but his shot was saved by Jed Steer before James Vaughan was sent off for violent conduct.
Ipswich have now failed to win in their last five matches, while Huddersfield have only won twice this season.
McGoldrick, who was a half-time substitute, had several openings for the hosts but, having seen one shot from the edge of the box easily saved by Steer, he then fired over from distance.
Jonathan Douglas also went close for the hosts after the break when he headed Ainsley Maitland-Niles's free-kick just over before Emyr Huws' shot through a crowded box was parried from danger by Dean Gerken.
But McGoldrick should have sealed a first win in four league games in injury time when his snap-shot hit the legs of Steer from 10 yards.
Vaughan was sent off deep into added time for throwing the ball into the face of Jonas Knudsen following a dispute over a throw-in.
Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy:
"I think it was a game of two halves. We were quite good in the second half and not so good in the first half.
"Both keepers made great saves so I think a draw was probably the right result. It was good to get a clean sheet and our reaction in the second half was positive.
"We were back to being our competitive best by not allowing them to play and I think we won our personal battles in the end. On a different day, we would have won 1-0 but that is not quite happening for us at the minute."
Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell:
"The sending-off put a dark cloud on a decent day. It was a good performance, we kept a clean sheet and created chances. But he (Vaughan) has let himself down.
"He has worked hard to get back into the squad and he was actually close to starting. But with two or three minutes to go, he has to manage the situation and not get involved.
"He has come in and apologised to me and the group but we are now going to lose him again - and we will miss him. He will have to work hard to get back into the squad."
