Hamilton rallied superbly with 10 men to secure a point against Dundee at New Douglas Park.

The visitors took the lead in fortuitous fashion when Kevin Holt's early second-half long range strike found the net after a deflection.

Darian Mackinnon saw red for raising his hands after Dundee players reacted to a strong Dougie Imrie tackle.

The hosts kept going forward and Imrie got their reward late on when he turned home Ziggy Gordon's cross.

Both sides lost players to injury; Accies' Ali Crawford hobbling off in the first half and Dundee's Julen Etxabeguren being stretchered off late on.

Accies should have been in front just five minutes in when Crawford put a cross from a free kick wide on the left into an awkward area for the Dundee defence.

Lucas Tagliapietra got on the end of it but his effort from just four yards out was turned away well by goalkeeper Scott Bain.

Dundee's first effort came through Rhys Healey, the on-loan Cardiff man flashing a header from eight yards just over after being found by Nick Ross.

Healey was looking lively and soon after picked the ball up wide on the left, drove inside past a couple of challenges and shot just past the post.

Hamilton were presented with another great chance on the half hour when Imrie found Gramoz Kurtaj on the penalty spot, but the German side-footed over the bar.

Greg Stewart's deft touch put Healey through on goal, but his composure deserted him as he blazed wildly over the bar.

The game's opening goal owed a huge amount to fortune and it fell to Dundee early in the second period. Holt tried his luck from 30 yards and his strike took a huge deflection to wrong-foot goalkeeper Michael McGovern and find the back of the net.

Dundee had a strong penalty shout when Healey's pace took him goalside of Tagliapietra and into the box. The Brazilian's brought Healey down. It looked clumsy but Willie Collum waved played on.

Hamilton's task was made significantly more difficult when they were reduced to 10 men around the hour mark. Imrie's challenge on Thomas Konrad sparked a melee in which Mackinnon raised his hands, and Collum wasted no time in issuing the red card.

Carlton Morris had endured a tough shift up front for Accies, but his strike from the angle of the box forced a good save from Bain, and when the cross came back into the box Morris nodded home, but his joy was short-lived as the flag went up for offside.

Tagliapietra then had the ball in the net again shortly after when he headed a free kick in off the post but that was ruled out for a foul.

Accies did get their reward with just a few minutes remaining, and it was really no more than their play deserved.

Gordon drove down the right flank to the byline, his low cross found Imrie arriving at the perfect moment to turn the ball home for the equaliser which secured a point for the home side.
