Striker Rakish Bingham says he never doubted his ability, despite an 11-game run without a goal for Hartlepool United that ended in their 2-1 defeat by Northampton Town.
The 21-year-old scored his only other goal this season in the 2-0 opening-day victory against Morecambe.
He netted one in five games on loan from Mansfield Town last term.
"Goals bring confidence naturally but I'm a confident lad anyway," Bingham told BBC Tees.
Bingham was snapped up by Pools boss Ronnie Moore in the summer after his loan spell at Victoria Park was cut short by Mansfield last season.
And he admitted he had been as disappointed as anyone with his recent lean spell.
"I'm always my own worst critic," he added.
"I know with my ability I should be putting chances away."
