Lee Carsley believes Brentford's players have shown more intensity since he took over as head coach.
Carsley was promoted from Under-21s boss after Marinus Dijkhuizen was axed.
The Bees lost his first two matches in charge, but Carsley says the international break has given him time to work with the squad.
"It has given us an opportunity to take stock of where we are, what we need to do and what changes we need to make," he told BBC Radio London.
"I thought the intensity we were working at was maybe a bit lower than what we were used to.
"We got the players playing with a bit more energy, tempo and desire. We have got that across the last 10 days and we have worked them hard.
"I noticed a determination in the attitudes in the last week. There are a lot of players taking ownership and responsibility, as are we as coaches.
"We need to be better on and off the pitch. There is a togetherness within the group, but ultimately we need to see it on the pitch."
