Chesterfield 0-3 Scunthorpe United

Paddy Madden of Scunthorpe
Paddy Madden has scored nine goals for Scunthorpe this season

League One's leading goalscorer Paddy Madden scored twice as Scunthorpe beat 10-man Chesterfield.

Madden opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 56th minute after Spireites defender Dan Jones brought down Gary McSheffrey.

Jones was sent off for the challenge and it got worse for the home side when McSheffrey fired in a 20-yard strike.

Chesterfield's Jay O'Shea smashed a free-kick against the crossbar before Madden made it 3-0 in the 79th minute.

Scunthorpe United manager Mark Robins told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I thought it was a really good, commanding performance and we deserved to win.

"First half we had three, four, five chances, and the goalkeeper made good saves. They've done everything that I've asked of them.

"We defended well when we needed to, as they've put decent balls in the box.

"They've got two experienced strikers up front and we've dealt with everything that they've thrown at us."
