Doug Loft scored his second goal of the season against Southend

Doug Loft's late goal ensured League One leaders Gillingham extended their unbeaten run to seven games as they drew with Southend United.

Steve McLaughlin gave the visitors an early lead, lobbing goalkeeper Stuart Nelson to score.

Bradley Dack had a great chance to equalise, but Luke Prosser's great last-ditch tackle prevented a goal.

But Loft's sliced cross caught Daniel Bentley off his line for a fortunate equaliser for the Kent-based side.

Gills stay top of League One, but their lead has been cut to two points, while Southend moved up to eighth place.
