Hibernian turned in a strong first-half display at Stark's Park to end Raith Rovers' run of seven home wins.
John McGinn crashed home a fabulous strike as the visitors dominated the early stages.
Jason Cummings then broke clear of the Rovers defence to loft a shot over advancing keeper Kevin Cuthbert for his 10th goal of the season.
Rovers improved after the interval and Jon Daly steered home a header but Hibs held firm to take maximum points.
It means Alan Stubbs' side are now unbeaten in 10 games, with nine victories along the way, ahead of next weekend's meeting with Championship leaders Rangers.
And the Edinburgh side are five points adrift in second place, with the Ibrox side visiting St Mirren on Sunday.
Stubbs played with three central defenders at Stark's Park and the visitors controlled much of the midfield play in the opening 45 minutes.
Dominique Malonga teed up McGinn for a thumping finish from distance and the home defence were caught out by a long kick from goalkeeper Mark Oxley for the second goal.
Liam Henderson flashed a shot wide early in the second half as Hibs looked to kill the game but the Kirkcaldy side found a way back as Daly connected with a Jason Thomas cross.
The hosts piled forward in the latter stages and there were several penalty appeals from players in blue and white as the ball spent more time in a congested Hibs' box but referee George Salmond, who added on eight minutes, was not moved.
