Guernsey FC boss Tony Vance says his side should be grateful to Luke Winch after his two goals gave them victory over Chipstead.
Half-time substitute Winch scored twice in the 2-1 win as Guernsey went 12th in Isthmian League Division One South, having been a goal down.
Winch's goals were his first for the side since 21 October 2014.
"He was outstanding. But to get man of the match in a 45-minute cameo role sums up where we were," said Vance.
"To a certain degree it's disappointing that we were sub-standard, but luckily Luke Winch came off the bench and inspired us and got us three points, and to a certain degree they're his three points.
"The pace was poor, it was sub-standard and I told them that, it wasn't the levels we expect.
"I was really disappointed with our first 45 minutes because there weren't many people who could look their team-mate in the eye and say they gave it their all."
