Match ends, Port Vale 2, Shrewsbury Town 0.
Port Vale claimed their first win in five League One games with a comfortable victory over Shrewsbury.
Vale had an early chance through AJ Leitch-Smith who forced Shrewsbury keeper Jayson Leutwiler to save.
Louis Dodds broke the deadlock on 52 minutes, firing in from 12 yards after racing on to a Colin Daniel pass.
Michael O'Connor then added the second from the penalty spot 10 minutes from time to seal all three points after Matt Tootle had handled in the area.
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon told BBC Radio Shropshire:
"We were second best. Right from the start we didn't win enough battles for a derby game - which is surprising coming off the back of the game with Bury.
"Our players were not smart enough and too many times we were second best. It took us too long to try to put a dent in their back four. We had no runners around their back players and it took us too long to create some forward firepower.
"We couldn't deliver, we had no aggression. You have to be smart and if you aren't winning battles you have to try doing something different. You can tell from the body language of the players that they didn't give enough."
