The Tynesiders took an early lead through Gus Mafuta's first goal for the club, after the Wood failed to clear.
Ryan Bowman set up Danny Johnson for Gateshead's second, before Wood got one back through Billy Clifford's penalty.
Mauro Vilhete headed the hosts level from Anthony Jeffrey's cross but this visitors immediately grabbed the winner through Honeyman's close-range finish.
