Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis says the League One strugglers are trying to find funds to strengthen his squad.
Following injuries to midfielders David Fox and Brad Inman, Davis is attempting to finance some loan signings.
"We're up to the budget and we have to stick with that so I have to raise the money somehow," Davis, 50, told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I'm sure if there was a necessity to cover a gap there would be a possibility of bringing someone in."
He continued: "I'm sure there would be a conversation with the board, whether that would be now or in January, but it's very difficult in the current situation.
"We have to get on with it - injuries happen in football usually when you're down there - we just have to hope that the people coming in do well."
Although notoriously slow starters, the Alex have won only two of 15 games so far and are already five points adrift of safety.
They have not won at Gresty Road since beating Scunthorpe on 7 March.
