Stevenage 3-0 Gillingham

League One high-flyers Gillingham were humbled by struggling League Two side Stevenage in the FA Cup first round.

Steven Schumacher gave the home side an early lead as he fired in from 20 yards after a well-worked corner.

Ex-Gillingham midfielder Chris Whelpdale got the second when he headed in Dean Parrett's corner before Cody McDonald and Rory Donnelly went close for the League One side.

On-loan striker Armand Gnanduillet completed the win in stoppage time.

Gillingham have not won a first round tie since 2012, while Stevenage, who famously beat Newcastle in 2011, have made it through to the fourth round in three of the last five seasons.

Stevenage manager Teddy Sheringham told BBC Three Counties Radio:

"I would say that it was pretty similar to last week in as much as we came out of the blocks and they didn't. So you have to take full advantage of that and we did"

(on Gillingham) "There were a couple of hairy moments and games can change on certain little times. I can remember a little cross shot going right across the goal with two or three of their players sliding in. If one of them gets a touch on that, it makes the last 20 minutes a different game."

(on the third goal) "Once they got two against one, it was nice that they worked it out. Dean Parrett squares the ball very unselfishly and I'm sure Gnanduillet owes him one now"
