Grimsby Town substitute Padraig Amond came off the bench to score twice as the Mariners thrashed St Albans City to reach the FA Cup second round.
The National League side led from Conor Townsend's 25-yard free-kick, doubling the lead by the break after Amond poked in, within three minutes of coming on.
Louie Theophanous gave St Albans hope with a strike that went in off the bar.
But Jon-Paul Pittman smashed in, then Marcus Marshall evaded tackles to add a fourth before Amond headed his second.
Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst told BBC Radio Humberside:
"I didn't think it was ever going to be a completely pretty game from getting up this morning and seeing the weather. I have to say this isn't said to the players at half-time.
"It's not an excuse for some bits of play at times but the ball is very different, there's no getting away from that. You get a few to train with it but not enough. It is a very different football to what we're used to playing with.
"We spoke about the next goal been important and, in fairness, it was three minutes in I looked at the scoreboard and just thought we could go on and get quite a few more. We've scored five, hit the woodwork twice, had a goal disallowed and missed other chances. That's not bad for a team who probably wasn't firing on all cylinders."
