Cheltenham Town moved to the top of the National League table with a thumping win against 10-man Guiseley.

Billy Waters put the hosts in front after just 55 seconds at Whaddon Road with a neat flick and header.

Rob Dickie doubled the lead when he nodded in Jack Munns' corner.

Guiseley's Adam Lockwood was shown a straight red card for bringing down Danny Wright, before Waters smashed home his second, Munns tapped in and James Rowe's neat finish made it 5-0.

The visitors' only shot on target saw Adam Boyes' fierce strike saved by Dillon Phillips.

Cheltenham, who are now unbeaten in seven games, replace Gloucestershire rivals Forest Green Rovers at the summit following their 1-1 draw at Welling.

It is the first time Gary Johnson's men, relegated from the Football League last season, have been top this campaign having been in second place since 28 September.

Mark Bower's Guiseley drop a place to 15th.

Cheltenham Town manager Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:

"The boys started really well. There was a lot of talk from me on Saturday [after the loss to Hartlepool] that we didn't get enough shots in, enough crosses in, and that we didn't have enough quality on the day. It was good motivation, wasn't it?

"I'm really proud of the whole group. We've recovered quickly from Saturday.

"It's nice to be top of the table. We've got 40 points from 20 games, which is a good number. We're on schedule. Keep that up and you win the league."
